Week 3 -- Meeting Elder Uchtdorf

Elder Uchtdorf and his wife came into our German class to meet us.

My comp said it best:

"So this week the MTC held the annual new mission president training thing, which basically means that the MTC presidency cracks down on us about being strictly obedient and making sure everything looks mission perfect. So, for the past 5 days we've had to go around our classroom building to the back entrance so that we wouldn't be disrupting the meetings on the first floor of our building and making a bad impression with because of our existence. It also means that we could almost never use the lobby for our study time and that we instead had to go to the depressing tiny closet rooms we teach investigators in -which basically means a round of PTSD every study period. If I sound angsty, it's because I am slightly biased by thinking that meetings about missionary work shouldn't get in the way of missionary work, but I'm also being overly dramatic just for kicks of trying to be interesting.

anyways, on Saturday while having our Deutsch grammar lesson, the floor supervisor kept knocking on our door every ten minuets to tell us some other thing we had to be sure to not do. The third time, my companions and I all look at each other and roll our eyes a little, look up, and there's some random, tan, white-haired man and some chick standing in front of us. It took me a full 3 seconds (which is actually a long time) to realize that IT WAS ELDER AND SISTER UCHTDORF!! And then they start speaking to us in German, and we had no idea what he was saying! If you look around the room everyone's smile was so big that it was basically falling of their face. I was so frazzled and amaze. Luckily District Leader Elder Penrod came in clutch and asked for a picture - If this is the only thing he ever does for us, it will all be ok.

The coolest part is that right as he walked in the room, the entire feeling of the room was different. You could just feel how much authority he had and the power of his faith. The same was true when the entire quorum of the 12 walked onto the stand for our sunday night devotional. The feeling was so powerful that it was almost overwhelming. Having about 900 missionaries, 250 mission presidents, and 12 apostles who have all been called by God in the same room was the most amazing thing. it makes all the crack downs so worth it."

So basically I couldn't have said it better. Also another funny thing that happened that my mom will just love. My district was in class studying super well like we always do. I decided it has been long enough. So I let one of my burps go, everyone jumped out of their chairs like when Elder Uchtdorf walked in lol. So thank you to my parents for teaching me that it is okay to burp. If the people running the mission president thing heard I would have been done for.

Also my comps love yoga...as for me, not so much.

The MTC is just so amazing and I love my district so much. Here are some pics.

Week 2

Roomies from Snow College

This week was 100x better than last week. So sister Caswell's grandma sends her the funniest packages and this week it has 2 big bags of fresh peas from her garden. So we had the Japanese sisters over. They are from Australia and we just had a pea party and ate them all. I guess we'll see what the next package is.

After we each taught our investigator Julia we were all talking about our lessons and all the funny things that happened. Things like two of our elders were asking her to get baptized. she said "schon sich taufen lassen" which means that she has already been baptized. but schön means beautiful. So they thought she was saying beautiful baptism. and they were saying yeah it will be.lol. she had to finally pull out google translate. Or when sis Wilson and sis frank and I were teaching her she was trying to tell us to hurry up because she only has a little time left. We could not figure out what she was saying. It took us literally 7 minutes to figure out that she wanted us to hurry up. By then it would have been faster for us to have just finished lol. But it is coming along slowly but surely. I also had the amazing idea of saying that we should give her the actual missionaries number. Then they reminded me that we are the actual missionaries hahaha. So now that is a huge joke.

German is pretty tough and my comps have learned some before coming so usually I say only like 3 things in our lessons because I don't know how to say a lot or I do not know what is going on. Usually a mix of both. By the time I figure out what I want to say it is too late to say it. So then I am lost in the lesson again. Anyway, we read a scripture and it is in D&C and it says to not think beforehand what you should say, but it will be given to you in the moment. So I went into my lesson with that in mind and I just listened to Donata the girl we were teaching. I did not try to think out what I was going to say. And I was able to actually talk to her, and testify and teach her.  whole entire lesson. It was so amazing to see the gift of tongues work for the first time. I mean I am sure it is here but sometimes it is hard to see.

Friday morning sister frank woke up with a pink goopy eye. then at dinner we decided she might have pink eye so we went to ask the nurse because I am definitely not trying to get that. The nurse sent us straight to urgent care lol. So we got to leave the MTC for a little bit. It was a nice break. We debated if we should stay there and miss class. She ended up actually having pink eye.

I love my zone and especially my district. They all have helped me to grow in a positive way.

Sorry my email is so random. Hope you are all doing well.

Week 1

Every day has felt like a week. Right after I got to the MTC I went straight to German class. My teacher only talks in German. So the first 2 days I pretty much had no idea what was happening. Now I can understand almost everything she is saying. Well, not everything, probably only 10% but I understand what we are supposed to do and what we are talking about lol. I can also pray in German and communicate a little. It is so hard though. Especially since most people have had some German before they came in. We have taught 3 lessons all in German already. Well at least attempted.

I came and I am in a trio. With Sister Wilson and Sister Frank. I love them to death. We get along so well. Sometimes too well so that we don't get anything done. But it is nice to have a break and laugh. Once we got here we actually got assigned another companion, she is a solo sister going to Hungary. So technically we are a quad. Her name is sister Caswell she has been here for 5 weeks.

I get to see Ellie every day and my cute roommates from snow here too. I see so many people I know and it makes it feel more like home. It is nice seeing people that you know from before because they actually know you and were not forced to know you like my companions were haha.

The second day was the worst tho. I was so sad and we had to teach our first lesson to our investigator and all in German. I couldn’t even understand anything and i was so confused and overwhelmed and after we were done we had lunch and I was just about to cry. Like lose it and I sat down at lunch and prayed and just said help me to see Maddy or Kamryn or Ellie just someone I know. And said amen. Then literally 10 seconds later I hear sister Clegg. I turn around and it was Maddy and I was so happy and gave her the biggest hug and we started crying lol. Then while I was talking to her Kam walked in and we were so happy and I was so thankful and Ellie came over too. so that was a tender mercy.

Thank you for all the prayers. They are much needed. Also, I can read email all through the week so feel free to email. Love you all.

The actual Sister Clegg.
